W.W. King Academy had no answers for either the Laurens Academy (5-3, 2-1 region) offense or defense on Friday night at Todd Kirk Field.
Senior quarterback Thomas Lowry either passed or ran for seven touchdowns in the Crusaders’ 54-0 victory.
The game was out of hand by the halfway mark of the second quarter.
Lowry threw for four touchdowns and rushed for three. He completed 14 of 19 passes for 175 yards and gained 183 on the ground.
Three different Crusader receivers caught touchdown passes from Lowry, but Clarence Bertoli stood out with seven catches for 60 yards and two touchdowns.
The defense was stingy, giving up just 170 yards. King Academy (1-6, 0-2 region) set out to run the ball early in the game, and the lack of success didn’t dissuade the Knights, who tested the LA defense 38 times for only 95 rushing yards. The Knights tried only seven passes.
Head Coach Todd Kirk said intensity was the key to the performance.
“We played well and executed well against a team that we outmanned. You can look at the score, 54-0, we outmanned them before it started,” Kirk said.
The latest task having been completed, Kirk is already looking to next week as Laurens Academy (5-3, 2-1) will travel to Johnston for an important game versus the Wardlaw Academy Patriots.
“We sealed ourselves into the playoffs, but we want home-field advantage and we need to win again next week,” Kirk said. “We’ve got to win that ballgame, and we do that by being focused and having a good week of practice. It’s elementary right now.”
