SUMTER – In the first round of the SCISA Class A playoffs, the Laurens Academy girls’ basketball team ran up against a Sailor playing for Marlins.
Sailor Reardon, a 5-6 point guard, hit 11-23 field goals and 2-4 free throws, totaling 24 points for Lowcountry Prep of Pawleys Island in a 49-38 victory over the Crusaders at Wilson Hall School.
It was a game with odd statistics. The Marlins scored six more field goals (21-52, .404) than the Crusaders, who attempted 28 free throws to Lowcountry’s 6. Unfortunately, Laurens Academy (7-12) hit only 9 (.321). Payton Breen led the Crusaders with 16 points, and Olivia Huck added 11. Also scoring were Rylee Ballard with 6 points, Emily Suttles with 3 and Elissa Hucks with 2.
LA’s field-goal percentage was .357 (15-42).
Low Country only broke free of the Crusaders in the fourth quarter after leading 21-20 at halftime and 33-28 at half.
