Laurens Academy swamped visiting Cambridge on Thursday night, with the boys running away to a 59-32 victory and the girls winning by a score of 33-26.

Though the Crusader boys shot only .333 from the floor (22-66), six of LA’s field goals were 3-pointers: two each by Clarence Bertoli and Buddy Baker and one apiece by Andrew Codington and Diamonte Grant.

Bertoli led LA (3-4, 1-0 region) with 12 points. Grant scored 11.

Other Crusaders who scored were Jared Willard with 9, Nicolas Rita with 8, Baker 6, Codington 5, Hunter Mullinax 4, and Garrett Murphy and Ryland Paxton, each with 2. LA converted 9 of 16 free throws as a team.

The Laurens Academy girls (4-3, 1-0) had a rough shooting night (13-48, .271) but significantly better than the Cougars, who connected on only 10 of 58 offerings (.172).

S.G. Natiello led the Crusaders with 10 points, followed by Payton Breen with 6; Olivia Huck with 5; and Rylee Ballard, Emily Suttles and Elissa Hucks, all with 4.

The game’s leading scorer was Lindsey Lee of Cambridge with 11 points. Jillian Mapes added 7, Alex Cockrell 6 and Erin Massey with 2.

Wardlaw Academy visits LA on Friday night.
