Thomas Lowry of Laurens Academy is the first player to twice be named Player of the Week by the Laurens County Touchdown Club.

The senior plays quarterback and defensive back for the Crusaders, who locked up a SCISA 8-man playoff slot with a 54-0 win over W.W. King on Friday night at Todd Kirk Field.

Lowry accounted for 7 touchdowns in the game, directing scoring drives on every Crusader possession, completing 14 of 19 passes for 175 yards and 4 touchdowns and scoring 3 more times while rushing for 183 yards in 10 carries.

This week LA faces a crucial region matchup with Wardlaw Academy in Johnston, with a home playoff date on the line.

The Laurens County Touchdown Club will honor Thomas at the Touchdown Club meeting this week on October 22 at noon at The Ridge, with S.C. Athletic Coaches Association executive director Shell Dula as the featured speaker. Dula is a coaching legend and always brings an outstanding view and perspective of high school football. The public is invited. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Previous weeks’ honorees include Judson Watkins, Diamonte Grant, Carson Venable and Lowry twice from Laurens Academy, Jayden McGowan of Laurens District High and Clinton’s Jykorie Gary.

McGowan was last week’s winner of Player of the Week and will also be honored this week at the TD Club.
