Laurens Academy fell to 0-5 on Friday night as Cathedral Academy of Charleston visited Todd Kirk Field and left with a 42-12 victory.

The Generals turned the tables on the Crusaders, who won by an even bigger margin, 52-6, in North Charleston a year ago.

Both LA scores came on Garrett Murphy touchdown passes, one to Cal Robertson for 75 yards and the other to Diamonte Grant for 15.

The Crusaders are off this week.

Clinton High’s cross country teams finished 4th (boys) and 6th (girls) at Wren’s Hurricane Invitational on Saturday morning in Piedmont.

For Clinton, Charlie Cody finished 15th with a time of 18:09, Keenan Dominick was 27th at 18:53. William Reid finished 32nd at 19:20, Hayden Stinson was 33rd at 19:22 and Joey Ardelt took 37th at 19:29.

Clinton finished in 3rd place in the JV race, led by Sam Gearheart, 5th at 19:36, and Gage Dominick, 12th at 20:30.

The team scores were J.L. Mann 54, Walhalla 65, Wren 92, Clinton 142, Belton-Honea Path 144, Blue Ridge 156, Greenwood 177, Woodmont 190, Landrum 228, West Oak 308 and White Hall 363.

The Clinton girls finished 6th, though the 5th-place points of the home-schooled Greenville Hurricanes were not listed in the team standing.

Elizabeth Reid finished 7th with a time of 22:09, followed by Dorothy Trent, 27th at 24:14; Junia Nolan, 39th at 25:05; Danielle Trent, 54th at 27:19; and Ada Tiller, 58th at 28:28.

In the JV Girls Race, Hannah Knight set a season’s best time of 32:58.

Team scores (except for the home-school team) were Wren 48, Greenwood 93, Landrum 97, Woodmont 153, Clinton 154, Walhalla 158, Blue Ridge 182 and White Hall 183.

Thecross country teams at running at Lakeside Country Club on Tuesday in Laurens’ home meet.

Laurens District High School’s golf fundraiser – in benefits the football program – is coming up on Oct. 23 at Lakeside. The entry fee is $400 per team. For more information, contact Corey Grayden (864-871-0099) or Bubba Rawl (864-304-3042).

Youth soccer play began on Monday at Clinton Family YMCA. Games are to be played at the Presbyterian College intramural comples on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays through Oct. 28 at 5 p.m.

The age groups in the co-ed leagues are 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12.
