Buddy Baker

Laurens Academy rolled past Anderson Christian on Wednesday, with the boys going to the whip 75-41 and the middle-school boys taming the Lions 26-19.

Buddy Baker, with 19 points, Diamonte Grant with 18 and Jared Willard with 16, provided the bulk of the offensive firepower. Anthony Candela added 6, Cal Robertson 4 and Dimitri Wells 2.

Laurens Academy is 10-7. Rosco Barbosa led Anderson Christian with 19.

Braydon Burke led LA with 16 points in the middle-school contest.

Coach John Gardner with Taneal Evans

Union County swept Wednesday’s basketball games, with the Yellow Jackets edging the girls 41-38 and the boys 78-54.

Clinton head coach John Gardner said his team “came out rusty and couldn’t get over the hump.”

The Red Devils (8-4, 0-1 Region 3-3A) played without standout Tinique Austin, but Taneal Evans stepped up to score 14 points. Ry’Daija Mars added 7, Grayson Taylor 6, Payton Price Walker 5, Dana Kinard 4 and Bryanna Belton 2.

In the boys’ game, the 1st and 3rd quarters were devastating in that Clinton (7-3, 0-1) was scoring in single digits in both while Union amassed more than 20.

Taliek Fuller led the Red Devils with 12 points. Austin Copeland added 9, Tylon Scurry 8, Jamon Golden 7, Caleb Taylor 6, Jykorie Gary 3 and Christopher Young 2.

Uh, oh again … Clinton has postponed Friday night’s home basketball games versus Chapman. … Thursday’s games at Laurens Academy (Fountain Inn Christian) have been canceled.
