Shannon Forest got 15 points from Katie Edweg and defeated Laurens Academy 28-16 in Greenville on Friday night in girls’ basketball.

Rylee Ballard scored 10 of the Crusaders’ 14 points and Elissa Hucks chipped in the other 4. Ballard hit 2 of her 10 field-goal attempts, 2 of which were 3-pointers.

As a team, Laurens Academy (1-1) hit 6 of 24 shots from the field for 25 percent. The Crusaders did not attempt a free throw and were scoreless in the 1st quarter.

Shannon Forest, also Crusaders, led 7-0 after a quarter and 12-6 at halftime.

Five other Shannon Forest players scored between 2 and 4 points.

The Clinton boys are not playing this week in a tipoff basketball tournament hosted by Union County.

Due to Red Devil participation in the state football playoffs -- and since many players on that team play basketball -- Clinton’s season will begin on Nov. 30 against Mid-Carolina at home.
