As expected, Clinton swapped places with Powdersville and moved up to 3rd in the S.C. Prep Media Poll, trailing only Daniel and Dillon. Fourth-ranked Powdersville faces 6th-ranked Belton-Honea Path on Sept. 30.

The poll leaders are Dutch Fork in Class 5A, South Florence in 4A, Daniel in 3A, Saluda in 2A and St. Joseph’s in A.

Clinton improved to 5-1 in girls tennis, 4-0 in Region 4-3A, with a 6-0 victory over Emerald on Thursday.

The Vikings only contested three singles matches, and the Red Devils only lost one game.

Around and about: Clinton swept Wednesday volleyball matches versus Chester, with the varsity winning, 3-0, and the JV, 2-0.  The Red Devil varsity is 9-1, 4-1 in Region 4-3A, while the JVs are 9-0. … Laurens’ JVs defeated Eastside, 2-1, but the Eagles won the varsity match, 3-0.

Kelsie Little won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, but Eastside otherwise ruled the Laurens home courts in a 5-1 tennis victory over the Raiders on Wednesday. … Laurens Academy improved to 15-4 in volleyball with a 3-0 victory over Cambridge Academy that was a rarity in that the Crusaders defeated the Cougars 25-18 in all three sets. … The Crusader middle school team is 9-1 after a 2-0 victory.

Clinton junior varsity football picked up its 1st shutout and improved to 6-0 with a 32-0 win at South Aiken. Javon Cook scored 2 rushing touchdowns, and Tushawn Richardson and Neil Brown each had 1. Chris Boyd scored on a 30-yard punt return.

Hanna dropped the Laurens JVs to 1-4 with a 35-14 win in Anderson. Deanari Jackson and Ze'Mar Jones had the Raider scores.
