Garrett Murphy threw 6 TD passes.

A Saturday homecoming was worth the wait for Laurens Academy, which was rained out on Friday night but waited about 17 hours to win for the first time, 66-30, over Jefferson Davis Academy of Blackville.

Laurens Academy (1-6) scored the game’s 1st 22 points, led 50-16 at halftime and completed the game with a running clock.

Freshman quarterback Garrett Murphy, who threw 6 touchdown passes, rushed for 2 touchdowns on runs of 20 and 3 yards and ran in 5 2-point conversions.

Clarence Bertoli, playing for the 1st time due to an injury, scored 3 times on shovel passes from Murphy, scoring from 49, 43 and 38 yards out. Cal Robertson scored on a 90-yard reception and caught a conversion pass from Murphy. Diamonte Grant caught touchdown passes of 47 and 24 yards.

Jarrett Willard scooped up a fumble and ran it in from 51 yards out.

Jefferson Davis is 2-3, with one of the wins being a forfeit against Newberry Academy. The Raiders also defeated the Augusta Eagles of Martinez, Ga., 42-0.
