Turnabout – and quite often, turnovers – were fair play at the Clinton High School gym Thursday night.

A week after Laurens swept the Red Devil junior varsity teams, Clinton returned the favor on its home court. The Clinton girls edged the Raiders, 20-18, and the boys made quick work of LDHS, winning 45-30.

It wasn’t a big night for free-throw shooters. The two girls’ and two boys’ teams combined to drop 8 out of 40 tries. Laurens was a combined 7-29 (girls 4-13, boys 3-16), and Clinton was 1-10 (girls 0-3, boys 1-7).

In both games, Laurens outscored Clinton in only the 4th quarters.

Led by Taliek Fuller, who scored 16 points, the Red Devils ran away with the boys game, pulling out to a quick 14-3 led in the first quarter and advning the edge to 29-14 at halftime.

Devon Redd paced the Raiders with 8 points, followed by Owen Pridgen with 7. Seven LDHS players scored either 1, 2 or 3 points.

Zay Johnson added 9 for Clinton, and Rabbit Cunningham added 8.

A little before halfway through the 4th quarter of the girls’ game, the Red Devils, who got 6 points apiece from Marcey Campbell and Patience Adams, led 20-11, but Laurens scored the game’s remaining 7 points. At halftime, Clinton led 10-7.

Also scoring for Clinton were Osavianna Swindler, Hannah Gary, Fantasia Walker and Lindsay Pycell, all with 2.

Myri Allen led the Raiders with 5 points, followed by Syberia Boyd and Olivia Brockman, each with 4.
