Clinton (9-2) swept Powdersville, 7-0, in the first round of the Class 3A girls’ tennis playoffs on Tuesday, advancing into the second round on Thursday at Daniel.

The Lions defeated Mid-Carolina 6-0.

Singles: Mary Catherine Dailey defeated Ryann Roth 6-0, 6-1. Ana Maria Rincon defeated Sydnee Barrett 6-1, 6-0. Chandler Dailey defeated Alison Reca 6-2, 6-3. Reese Gowan defeated Anna Kirby 6-1, 6-0. Gracie Spangler defeated Kendall Boyd 6-1, 6-2.

Doubles: M.C. Dailey-C. Dailey defeated Roth-Barrett 8-0. Kimora Wesley-Gracie Wiggins defeated Anna Cate Brooks-Baylee Brown 8-7 (3).

Clinton swept the Laurens County championship cross country meet against Laurens, with the girls scoring 24 points to the Raiders’ 31 and the boys’ winning by a margin of 23-36.

Eighth Grader Elizabeth Reid repeated as the individual champion with a time of 21:47. Teammates finished 2nd, 5th, 6th and 10th. Dorothy Trent rab 22:58, Erin Donley 24:30, Danielle Trent 26:48, Kimi Carmichael 27:59, Maren Vondergeest 28:55 and Hannah Knight 32:20.

Vondergeest was recognized as a part of Senior Night ceremonies for her 5 years of running in the cross country program.

Senior Luis Brenna of Laurens set a course record of 16:42, but Red Devils finished 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th for the low score of 23.

The top seven runners for Clinton were William Reid with a time of 17:56, Joey Ardelt 18:36, Daniel Wyatt 18:54, Hayden Miner, Keenan Dominick 19:05, Conner Donley 19:33 and Hayden Stinson 19:40.

Senior Gray Walsh, was honored for his 5 years with the program.

The Red Devils will travel to Oasis Farms at Connie Maxwell in Greenwood on Saturday morning for the Region 3-3A championships.
