Clinton tuned up for an all-important girls’ tennis match next week against Chapman by polishing off Woodruff, 6-0, on the Wolverines’ home courts.

Chapman, which advanced to the state 3A finals a year ago, handed the Red Devils their only loss to date, winning 4-3 in Inman on Sept. 14. This time the Panthers must come to Clinton defending first place in Region 3-3A.

Singles: Mary Catherine Dailey defeated Lauryn Beerer 6-3, 6-1. Ana Maria Rincon defeated Lily Zheng 6-0, 6-0. Chandler Dailey defeated CoCo Zheng 6-4, 6-1. Reese Gowan defeated Marlee Wood 6-2, 6-0. Gracie Spangler defeated Anna Henry 6-1, 6-0.

Doubles: Kimora Wesley-Ella Adair defeated Emily Thompson-Zebera Wireman 8-6.

Clinton is 8-1 both overall and in the region.


Kadon Crawford tossed a pair of touchdown passes, and Zay Johnston scored twice, once receiving and the other on a 65-yard kickoff return, as Clinton walloped Broome, 30-6, in junior varsity football in Spartanburg.

T.J. Sullivan and Zee Livingston scored rushing touchdowns, and Josh May scored on a catch as the Red Devils scored 22 second-half points.

Next up is Chapman, which will visit Clinton (2-0) on Thursday, Oct. 8.
