At No. 5 singles, Gracie Spangler proved to be the most dominant, but it was that kind of day for Clinton in a 7-0 girls’ tennis victory at home over Union County.

Spangler won all her games – 6-0, 6-0 – against the Yellow Jackets’ Karrah Rice.

Clinton is 7-1, both overall and in Region 3-3A. The Red Devils trail Chapman, which won a tight 4-3 decision earlier in the season. Next up is a visit to Woodruff on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Singles:Mary Catherine Dailey defeated Mary Kathryn James 6-2, 6-0. Ana Maria Rincon defeated Anna Gregory 6-2, 6-2. Chandler Dailey defeated Bailey Scott 6-3, 6-0. Reese Gowan defeated Julia Bailey 6-0, 6-1. Gracie Spangler defeated Karrah Rice 6-0, 6-0.

Doubles: M.C. Dailey-C. Dailey won by forfeit. Kimora Wesley-Ella Adair defeated Alexa Robbins-Helen Lawing 6-1, 6-2.

Clinton’s cross country teams ran around a Lakeside Country Club course in a meet hosted by the Laurens Raiders.

The Red Devil boys won their portion with 30 points, followed by Powdersville with 33 and LDHS with 64.

William Reid finished 1st individually with a time of 18:10. Others contributing to the win were Joey Ardelt, 4th at 18:49; Daniel Wyatt, 5th at 18:50; Keenan Dominick, 9th 19:23; and Sam Gearhart, 11th at 19:42. Hayden Miner, was 14th with a time of 19:42; and Connor Donley, 20th at 20:13.

 

Dorman ran away with the girls’ meet, scoring 24 points to 47 for Powdersville and 65 for Clinton.

Elizabeth Reid was the overall winner, however, for the Red Devils, running the course in 21:30.

Dorothy Trent finished 15th with a time of 23:14; Erin Donley, 17th at 23:29; Hope Conaway, 21st 24:04; and Marissa Brewer, 26th at 26:11.
