PROSPERITY – Clinton’s exit from the Class 3A baseball playoffs was excruciating on Monday night.
Colby Doolittle provided the exit velocity with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning that gave Mid-Carolina (15-10) a 6-5 playoff continuance.
Wilson Wages put Clinton (15-8) up with a 2-run single in the first inning, then crashed a 3-run homer in the third.
Meanwhile, Mid-Carolina was getting a 3-run homer from Will Murray in the second.
Reliever Caleb Fulmer kept the Red Devils at bay with 4-1/3 innings of 1-hit, scoreless relief. He struck out 7.
Jaylin Alexander took the loss. He pitched 2-2/3 innings, giving up the tying and winning runs while allowing 2 hits and fanning 5. Jacob Clark was the M-C starter. In addition to Doolittle’s walk-off homer, the Rebels got a second-inning blast from Murray.
Clinton played errorless baseball. Wages’ homer was the only one hit by the team in the entire season.
