GREENWOOD – The 3rd day of the Lakelands FCA Emerald Classic was successful for Laurens County’s entrants in the 8-team boys’ basketball  tournament.

Laurens (7-9) got back on the plus side with a 59-34 victory over Belton-Honea Path in the 3rd-place game on Wednesday. Clinton (6-2) picked up a 2nd win over Ninety Six, 59-49.

Joshua Cureton led the Raiders with 14 points. Blake Nelson added 9, Devon Redd 8 and Preston Mahon 7.

T.J. Glenn led the Bears with 13 points.

“It was a good bounce-back win after falling apart in the 4th quarter [Tuesday] night,” Laurens head coach Tommy Spires said. “All 14 guys contributed in some way.”

Clinton won in spite of 26 points scored by Ninety Six’s Payne Davis.

Clinton’s Eddie Romines said of the Wildcats, “They were very difficult to defend and have one kid (Davis) who can shot the 3 like Seth Curry. Jamon Golden play well on offense and defense and made the all-tournament team.”

Golden led Clinton with 18 points. Wil Stewart scored 14. Austin Copeland added 12.

Romines said his team rebounded well and did well at the free-throw line (19-27), but he was displeased at the rate of turnovers.
