Clinton has arranged to play Newberry on Sept. 24, which had been the Red Devils’ open date in high school football’s 11-weeks-to-play-10 scheduling format.
The postponement also means that the Clinton junior varsity is to visit Newberry on Thursday, Sept. 23, which in turn means a scheduled return engagement versus Laurens has been canceled on that date.
Laurens has canceled its Sept. 9 JV game at Daniel, as well.
Laurens’ Walter Todd fell in the first round of the U.S. Senior Amateur at the Country Club of Detroit in Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.
Todd advanced through 2 rounds of stroke play, shooting 74-72-146.
Kevin VandenBerg of Pulaski, N.Y., eliminated Todd in match play, 5 and 3.
The Raiders didn’t win, either, but they got significantly better on the links Monday.
Greenville won the Region 2-4A match, 190-232, but Laurens shaved 12 strokes off its score, also at Lakeside Country Club, from the Eastside match.
Mary Frances Kennedy led the way again with a 57. Virginia Smith and Lane McCracken both had personal-best scores of 58, and Julia Kennedy shot 59.
Next up is a visit to Greenwood on Thursday in a rescheduled match from Aug. 17.
