Clinton High’s 4-0 football team is ranked 3rd in the state among Class 3A schools in the latest S.C. Prep Media poll, conducted by a select panel of media members from around the state.
The S.C. Media poll ranks Daniel at the top, followed by Dillon, Clinton, Camden, Chapman, Aynor, Brookland-Cayce, Gilbert, Powdersville and Lower Richland.
Chapman is, of course, a member of Region 3-3A along with the Red Devils, Woodruff, Union County, Broome and Emerald.
Two Region 2-4A rivals of Laurens, Greenville and Greenwood, are ranked 4th and 6th, respectively in the 4A poll.
Darryl Halbert has agreed to return to Laurens Academy as varsity baseball coach.
In his previous tenure, Halbert led the Crusaders to a SCISA state championship in 2011 and a berth in the finals in 2016.
“His teams always played with great purpose, class, and toughness,” school officials said in a media release. “Coach Halbert has a time-tested and disciplined approach to the game that produced winning teams throughout his career.”
The new coach will meet his players and the public on Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. in the LA library.
The Laurens County FCA Development Dinner has been scheduled for Oct. 19. Laurens County is a member of Lakelands Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the dinner raises funds for staff, camp scholarships and FCA activities in the county.
The dinner is at 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church. Along with testimonies from local students and coaches, Jose Alvarez, who pitched for the Atlanta Braves in the 1980s, is the guest speaker.
