An accident during a Limited Late Model race at Laurens County Speedway resulted in injuries to four spectators.
A car driven by veteran Mike Kernells of Hodges went over the Turn 4 wall into the grandstands, according to eyewitness accounts. According to a video posted on Facebook, the car drifted into the concrete guardrail between turns 3-4 and hopped over it. It then skidded through the fencing bordering the spectator area, and the front of the car came to rest in the lowest row of the bleachers. The car collected a fan who slid across its trunk as it came to a halt.
None of the injuries was life-threatening, according to a statement from the track, but two spectators were transported to nearby Prisma Laurens County Hospital and two were airlifted to Greenville. Kernells was shaken up but uninjured.
