Coming off a weekend split at the Dixie Youth O Zone (ages 11-12) state tournament in Moncks Corner, the all-stars of the Clinton Family YMCA staved off elimination with a 16-2 victory on Monday over Westminster.

Clinton opened the tournament with an extra-inning, 5-4 victory over Hartsville National.

Central/Clemson defeated Clinton 12-7.

Clinton is to play another elimination game on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

The Senior American Legion playoffs begin in Greenwood Monday night when Post 20, which features three ex-Laurens Raiders in prominent roles, opens a best-of-3 series at Legion Field against Easley.

The two teams meet again on Tuesday in Easley, with a third game, if necessary, at Greenwood on Wednesday.

Thursday is available for a make-up date.

Clinton Post 56 ended its initial Junior American Legion baseball season with a 5-3 record. The Dirt Devils are not participating in the playoffs because many of its players also take part in football at Clinton High and want to get ready for August practice in that sport.
