Clinton High opened soccer season in the Emerald Cup, hosted by Region 3-3A rival Emerald. It was Saluda, however, that the Red Devils defeated by a score of 2-1 on Friday evening.

Jeremiah Gonzalez assisted J.P. Snelgrove early in the game.

Before the Tigers could respond, the two got together for a second time with Snelgrove scoring on another feed from Gonzalez.

Saluda fought back and scored a goal late in the match.

The Red Devils take on Laurens at 9 a.m. Saturday, again in Greenwood. The Raiders and Westside played to a scoreles tie on Friday.

It’s not every year the Presbyterian men’s team wins its opener.

In fact, the Blue Hose’ 4-1 victory over Erskine on Friday evening at Martin Stadium was their first successful debut since 2013.
