The Laurens District High girls’ tennis team won’t be competing in the Class 4A playoffs this year, but the Raiders closed out the season on Monday with a 4-3 out-of-region victory over Abbeville.
The playoffs were limited to two teams from each region due to COVID-19.
“I’m so proud of the girls and how hard they have worked and the great season we had,” coach Lynne Todd said. “We only missed going to the playoffs by a couple of lost lines against Eastside.
Singles: Kelsie Little won 6-7, 6-4 (1-0). Anna Jenkins won 6-2, 6-1. Bella Youseff won 6-2, 6-1. McKenzie Little lost 3-6, 7-5 (0-1). Bella Burrafato lost 1-6, 1-6.
Doubles: Jenkins-Youseff won 6-1, 6-1. Skylar Douglas-Casey Partee lost 6-2, 4-6 (0-1).
Laurens finished the season with a 7-4 record, 5-4 in Region 2-4A.
Thursday’s scheduled volleyball match at LDHS against Greer will be varsity only, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Tuesday’s Clinton volleyball matches at Chapman, in Inman, have been postponed.
Cambridge Academy defeated Laurens Academy 3-1 on Monday in Greenwood, but the middle-school Crusaders won over the Cougars, taking two of three by scores of 20-25, 25-12, 15-3.
