A 108-game Big South women’s basketball composite schedule, contested over a 9-week period beginning on Dec. 29, mandates an 18-game, unbalanced schedule that determines the regular-season champion.
The 12 Big South members will play seven teams twice and four teams once this coming season. The slate consists of one midweek contest on a Tuesday or Wednesday, plus games every Saturday during the nine weeks. The regular-season concludes Saturday, Feb. 26.
Schedule highlights include defending Big South champion High Point opening its league season at home in the new Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena against Gardner-Webb on Dec. 29, and hosting Campbell on Saturday, Jan. 15 in the 1st re-match of last season’s title contest between the squads. The 2nd High Point-Campbell meeting is set for the regular-season finale on Feb. 26 in Buies Creek, N.C.
New member North Carolina A&T begins its Big South schedule at home against Longwood on Saturday, Dec. 29. The Aggies will face a familiar foe in their second game, as N.C. A&T visits former conference rival Hampton on New Year’s Day.
Also opening the conference season at home on Dec. 29 will be Campbell (vs. Hampton), Winthrop (vs. Charleston Southern and new head coach Clarisse Garcia), Presbyterian (vs. USC Upstate), and UNC Asheville (vs. Radford). Campbell, North Carolina A&T and UNC Asheville will start and end conference action at home, while Charleston Southern, Hampton and USC Upstate will begin and finish league play with road games.
The season culminates with the 2022 Hercules Tires Big South Women’s Basketball Championship, which will be held at Bojangles’ Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C., from March 1-6. Four 1st-round games will be Tuesday, March 1, followed by four quarterfinal contests on Thursday, March 3. The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, March 5, with the championship game on Sunday, March 6.
