The Presbyterian College men’s soccer team won its 3rd consecutive match the hard way.
Cesar Sancho’s header in the 73rd minute gave the Blue Hose a 1-0 win over Jacksonville (Fla.) at Martin Stadium.
The Dolphins (1-3) started quickly, but they were credited with only 1 shot on goal in the entire game. Presbyterian only had 4.
The Blue Hose (3-1-1) will be right back on the pitch as they host Wofford on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the final lead-up to Big South Conference play.
Meanwhile, in Atlanta, volleyball was splitting its 1st two matches at the GSU (as in Georgia State, not Southern) Invitational, taking a 3-set sweep of Alcorn State and a 5-set loss to Stetson.
Erin Cooke led the Blue Hose against Stetson with 16 kills, 21 assists, and 21 digs for her 9th career triple-double and 3rd of the 2021 season.
Cooke paced the Blue Hose in the win over Alcorn State with 7 kills, 8 assists and 4 blocks.
Georgia State (3-6) hung another 5-set loss on PC (3-5) on Saturday.
Also in Atlanta, Georgia State easily disposed of the PC women’s soccer team by a score of 6-2 in spite of goals by Kori Lawrence and Lauren Hendry.
Kelsee Holloway scored twice for the Panthers (5-2-1), who outshot Presbyterian (1-7) 29-9.
The Blue Hose begin Big South Conference play starting with a trip to Hampton (Va.) on Saturday, Sept, 18. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
