BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – At the end of a day, and a season, moral victories lose their morality. They just become losses. The poetry stops rhyming.
Anthony Selden scored 15 points, Kareem Reid 13 and D.Q. Nichols 12 as Gardner-Webb dropped Presbyterian (5-20, 1-11 BSC) to its 11th consecutive Big South defeat on Saturday afternoon at Paul Porter Arena.
The Blue Hose continued their disquieting habit of losing competitively. Scattered among the setbacks are four margins of 8, three margins of 1, and one of 2, 3, 5, 6 and 10.
Gardner-Webb (13-11, 8-4) won the 1st game between the two by a point in overtime. PC has fallen twice in extra agony, too.
Jalen Forrest, a freshman from Decatur, Ga., led the Blue Hose with 13 points, 10 of those points coming in the 2nd half. Crosby James scored 10 points. Terrell Ard, Jr. grabbed 12 rebounds.
Gardner-Webb took a 28-20 halftime lead. Forrest led a comeback that saw the Blue Hose take the lead, 38-34, with 11:07 left in the game. Then the Runnin’ Bulldogs dashed off a 19-2 run that put them up by 13 (53-40) with 3:46 to go.
From there, the Blue Hose could get no closer than six.
The Blue Hose conclude their 2-game road swing in Farmville, Va., against the defending Big South champ, Longwood, on Wednesday at 7 p.m.     Â
