Jaslynn Gallegos will soon be bound for Moscow.
Not Idaho. Russia.
Gallegos, a Presbyterian College junior, qualified for the Wrestling Junior World Championship, which begins in the Russian capital on Aug. 16.
Gallegos qualified in the World Team Trials and will compete on Aug. 19 in the 53-kilogram weight class.
This marks the second major tournament that Gallegos has competed in this year as she wrestled in the 2020 U.S. Olympic trials in April. She recorded a pair of wins in the trials, which took place in Texas.
During the 2021 season, Gallegos recorded a 14-3 record with 7 pin victories. She earned a first-place finish at the National Collegiat Women’s Wresting championship, Southeast Regionals, while finishing second during the Robert Horton Memorial Tournament, as well.
In the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championship, she was one of three Blue Hose to earn All-America Honors following her third-place finish in the 116-pound weight class. She went 5-1 during the NCWWC with her only setback a tight 6-5 decision in her second match.
