Footballs have never had it so good.

The game of football remains tightly restricted.

This week in the Year of COVID-19, S.C. High School League football teams are in Phase 1.5, which means that the Laurens Raiders are still working out in small groups – 16 instead of 10 now – and still concentrating on conditioning, agility and developing some rhythm that will eventually make them better prepared to run plays and try to escape the grasp of defenders.

But now they can use footballs! To play football!

The footballs are regularly scrubbed and sanitized to prevent, in their own small way, the spread of the novel coronavirus.

As a result, football practices are novel, too.
