The Laurens Raiders will not be visiting Sirrine Stadium in Greenville on Friday night to play the Red Raiders. Last week Greenwood didn’t visit K.C. Hanna Stadium as planned.

Daryl Smith’s football team is being held hostage by the coronavirus, alias COVID-19, the Delta Variant and other names unfit for public disclosure.

The Region 2-4A schedule has left the starting gate and Laurens can’t get in it.

Laurens, 2-3 and holding, desperately needs to play region games because playoffs depend on region standings.

Making up these games is going to be difficult, and some S.C. High School League action may be in order. Perhaps the playoffs can  be postponed a week to facilitate makeup dates.

A bit of a holding pattern is in place for now.
