Anna Gray Rowland became the first Laurens golfer to qualify for the state tournament in girls’ golf since Kelsey Cox in 2009.

The Raiders played in the Class 4 upstate tournament at Falcon’s Lair in Walhalla on Monday.The Lady Raiders played in the AAAA Upper State Golf Tournament at Falcon’s Lair Golf Club in Walhalla on Monday, finishing 11th with a team score of 465.

Individual scores for Laurens were: Rowland 91, Bryson Cruickshanks 116, Lane McCracken 127 and Julia Kennedy 131.

“As a team we played well,” coach Jim Iacuone said. “Falcon’s Lair in very hilly, much different than most of the courses we play. It’s not the most difficult course we’ve played this year but it’s pretty close. Both Lane McCracken and Julia Kennedy had personal best scores.

The 4A state tournament will be next Monday and Tuesday at Shipyard Plantation on Hilton Head Island.

At the county cross country meet in Clinton, LDHS senior Luis Brenna set a course record time of 16:42 to claim individual honors, though the Red Devils won both the boys’ and girls’ runs.
