Laurens’ varsity volleyball team polished off Region 2-4A rival Greenwood – 25-23, 25-18, 25-18 – on the Raiders’ home court.

Coach Erin Fleming called it “an amazing defensive night.”

The list of distinction was long: Rebekah Smith had 16 kills, 2 aces and 16 digs; Mattison Strange 14 kills and 2 digs; Callie Wzorek 3 kills, 1 ace and 15 digs; Aubrey Wardell 2 aces and 14 digs;

Anna Taylor 3 aces and 4 digs; and Brianna Burrafato 4 aces.

Laurens (4-2, 3-2 region) visits Greenville on Tuesday.

Greenwood won the JV contest by scores of 25-14 and 24-12.

Emma Liner scored 2 kills, 1 ace and 2 digs. Za’Khia Davenport had 2 aces and 18 digs.

Eastside edged the Raider tennis team, 4-3, in Taylors. The No. 1 doubles match determined the outcome.

“Our girls were so pumped to beat Eastside since they had previously lost ... to them by one line,” coach Lynne Todd said. “Every one one of the Raider girls fought hard to the end of their match.”

Singles: Kelsie Little lost 6-1, 4-6 (8-10). Anna Jenkins won her match 6-1, 6-2. Bella Youseff lost 2-6, 1-6. McKenzie Little won 6-4, 1-6 (10-7). Bella Burrafato won 6-3, 6-0.

Doubles: Jenkins-Youseff lost 3-6, 2-6. Skylar Douglas-Casey Partee lost 6-7, 1-6.

Laurens (3-4 overall and region) takes on Abbeville at home on Monday.

The Raiders dropped a girls’ golf match to Greenwood at Lakeside Country Club. The Eagles scored 211 to Laurens’ 238.

Scoring for the Raiders were Anna Gray Rowland, who shot 48; Bryson Cruickshanks 53, Lane McCracken 66 and Gracin Gilstrap 71.

Gilbert won the Lady Eagle Invitational at Stoney Point in Greenwood, shooting 314. Laurens finished 17th with a score of 501.

Rowland shot 107, Cruickshanks 117, McCracken 138 and Julia Kennedy 139.

Greenwood won the junior varsity football game against the Raiders at K.C. Hanna Stadium by a score of 19-8.

Hunter Nabors hit K.D. Mosley on a 77-yard touchdown pass in the 4th quarter, and a 2-point conversion, accounted for the Raiders' only points.
