Winning everywhere but at No. 1 singles, Laurens evened its girls’ tennis record at 2-2 (overall and Region 2-4A) with a 6-1 victory over Greer on Monday.

The Yellow Jackets’ Serenity Samuel slipped past Kelsie Little on a tie-breaker.

“The girls’ hard work is paying off,” coach Lynne Todd said. “I see improvement in every player each week. Their movement on the courts has increased so much since the first practice in August.”

Singles: Kelsie Little lost 6-2, 4-6 (0-1). Anna Jenkins won 6-1, 6-4. Bella Youseff won 6-3, 7-6. McKenzie Little won 6-4, 6-1. Bella Buraffato won 6-2, 6-1.

Doubles: Youseff-Jenkins won 6-3, 7-5. Skylar Douglas-Casey Partee won 4-6, 6-2 (1-0).

Greenwood visits LDHS on Wednesday.

Micah Robertson accumulated 3 kills and 7 digs. Anna Taylor had 8 digs. Mattison Strange had 7 kills.

It was not, however, enough to avert a Region 2-4A loss to Eastside for the Raider volleyball team on Tuesday at LDHS.

Coach Erin Fleming described the match as an example of Laurens’ offense being unable to match the Eagles’ play. Eastside won the match 25-18, 25-17, 25-15.

The junior varsity match was more of the same. Eastside won 25-17, 25-13.
