Thanks to a big second inning, Laurens put Greenville away quickly in a 6-2 Region 2-4A baseball victory at Ed Prescott Field on Saturday.

Trailing 1-0, the Raiders scored 6 runs on 3 hits, 2 walks and a hit batter. Center fielder Mason Hamby drove in shortstop Thomas Willis with a triple. Before the inning was over Hamby, Zach Faulkner, Austin McNuer, Parker Wasson and Sulli Pinson also crossed the plate.

For Greenville (4-4, 1-1 region), Donovan Ford scored 1 of the runs, drove in another and took the loss, allowing all 6 runs in the second. Rush Sheppard scored the other run after reaching base on a fielder’s choice.

Faulkner fared far better for Laurens (4-3, 1-1), pitching 6-1/3 innings before yielding to Zak Rice for the final two outs. Only 1 of the 2 runs charged Faulkner was earned.

 

Peyton Herring’s 2-run, sixth-inning triple helped lift Laurens to a 7-5 softball victory at Greenville on Friday.

Herring went 3-for-4, scoring and driving in 2 runs. Kauree Munyan doubled twice in 3 at-bats. Taylor Hardin also went 3-for-4. Michaela Smith had 2 hits in 3 visits to the plate, and Carly Edwards was 2-for-4.

Alyssa Rowe went 7 innings, allowing 5 runs on 9 hits and striking out 12 to earn the victory. Aisling MacLeod took the loss, allowing 13 hits. Ty Gist had 3 hits for the Red Raiders.

Laurens also won the junior varsity baseball game over Greenville by a score of 7-3.

The game was tied in the bottom of the fourth inning when Hunter Nabors put the Raiders ahead with a single.

Asher Goss drove in 2 first-inning runs and 3 more with a bases-clearing double. He was the winning pitcher, as well, allowing 3 hits and 3 runs in 6 innings with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts.

The Raider C team swept a doubleheader at rival Clinton, 14-0 and 8-1. The Raiders made the most of 5 hits, taking advantage of 11 walks and scoring 7 runs in the first inning of the first game.

Clinton had 7 hits, 2 of them by T. Finley.

Landon Trevino pitched the shutout. Zay Pulley scored 3 runs, an Jireh Brown drove in 3.

Kason Copeland, the first of four Clinton pitchers, took the loss.

The second game was more of the same as Laurens posted 5 runs in the first inning. Brown had 3 hits and drove in 4. The Raiders had 9 hits, but a major culprit for the Red Devils was 5 errors.

Tanner Kyko scored the lone Clinton run in the third inning. He and Tanner Finley, whose single drove him in, each collected a pair of its.

Braden Yarbrough was the winning pitcher. Finley took the loss.

 

Eastside overwhelmed Laurens, 12-0, in boys’ soccer. The Eagles scored 11 runs in the first half. The Taylors school also won the girls’ game between the Region 2-4A opponents by a score of 7-0.
